I Wouldn’t Be Where I’m At Today If It Weren’t For My Family

This entire vision I had wouldn’t have been made possible if it weren’t for my friends and family. First and foremost, they deserve all of the recognition. Their health and happiness mean more to me than anything and that is the true meaning behind McCloskey Wellness.

They are truly what drive me and keep me coming back day after day to be a better son, brother, and friend. They are my rock and my oxygen.

The quality of our relationships is the most important aspect to our health.

I Wasn’t Always Passionate About Helping Others With Their Health

To be completely honest, I wasn’t even passionate about my own health. As a kid, I was raised by an unbelievably supportive family who I still love to this day. But while I was endlessly loved, my future was already being predetermined for a lifetime of sickness and disease.

I was exposed to secondhand smoke every day, resulting in bleeding ear infections and missing a month of school at a time. My nutrition was far from ideal as I could easily pack away four Big Macs at once at the age of seven (Ronald and I were on a first name basis). While I did stay active most days playing a wide range of sports, my health was anything but perfect as a child. But if I’m being honest, I truly was generally happy because my family did all they could to make sure I had everything I wanted. My heart is still incredibly full to this day thinking about what they sacrificed to raise me into the man I am today.

I’ll always be grateful for my childhood and wouldn’t change a thing.

But the truth is, I didn’t know life could have another normal because that was my normal. However, with a change of pace I transitioned to move in with my dad at the age of twelve and this became my new normal. Being a child to teenage parents who never married, it definitely made life different for sure, but it has never been something I regretted - not even for a single second. It’s made me appreciate and grateful for their sacrifices so much more.

In this new living environment I was no longer exposed to secondhand smoke, I started playing more endurance sports, ate homemade meals more often, and learned how to better manage my stress – radically reducing my symptoms of the childhood Tourette’s I had.

Although changing environments did help my previous health issues, I still faced seasonal allergies, a face full of teenage acne, and fatigue resulting from a lot of sleepless nights. While I was a popular and active teenage boy who didn’t have any life-threatening health issues, I thought I understood what it meant to be healthy. I mean, this is what health is, right?

I changed the way I looked at health

However, upon entering college at the age of 20 I started to see true health in a completely different light. Aside from learning in my college courses, I started diving into bestselling books, listening to thousands of hours of podcasts, flying across country to attend live events, and even experimenting on my own body. This is when I came to realize that the modern view of health in America is completely wrong.

There’s more to being healthy than just eating right and exercising.

To have true health is a combination of our mental health, the environment we live in, the quality of our relationships, our sleep habits, and our stress levels, along with eating a nutritious diet our body has an ancestral intelligence with and moving in ways our biology expects.

From pain to purpose

At this point in my life I was pretty passionate about my own health. I had declared myself as a nutrition major at Penn State and was a busy student athlete. However, one February morning my dad woke me up with news that would bring anyone to their knees. He did his best to push back the lump in his throat just to get the words out, but when he did he told me that my uncle had passed away in his sleep.

He was 43 years young and died of a massive heart attack. He left behind a beautiful family, kids, and best friends that are always going to wonder why. There were no goodbyes.

That Shook me

Ever since that day I have made it my mission to find out everything I can about health and make sure that nobody loses a loved one like that again. It sparked something inside of me that lead me to create something much bigger than myself.

I took the pain I felt and turned it into my purpose. Not only was my purpose to make myself the best possible version I could, but to make my loved ones the best that they could be too. And you, my friend, are no exception either. Because of my love for my uncle and my passion for health, I am so proud to say that…

McCloskey Wellness Is Born!

Image+4-16-19+at+2.51+PM.jpg

In our culture today we do a good job at treating symptoms and looking at the body separately. When, in fact, all of the aspects to health I listed above are so tightly intertwined that when one is suffering, usually so is another. We can no longer look at the human body and health as a one-size-fits-all approach that a drug (or even a superfood, for that matter) will cure.

Because we are all so unique, healthcare, and I mean true healthcare, not American sickcare, needs to be individualized and all areas of health must be addressed. This is the future of health and this is the reason why McCloskey Wellness was born - to bring you the best science, protocols, and methods to achieve your goals.

So just know that since I’ve improved my own health and I’m an expert in this field that by no means am I perfect (I think my girlfriend would largely agree with that too!). Nor would I ever expect perfection of you.

We can be both a light to guide others and a work in progress at the same time.

I am a lifetime student and will continue to grow, but I am also at a point in my life where I am ready to share my gifts with the world. And when you’re ready, I want to share them with you. Let’s do this together!
